Great Spinetail, San Marcos 27 June 2008.

27 June: After just over an hour in the bus we arrived at a site near San Marcos where we immediately located our target bird for the day - Great Spinetail. Unrivalled views were obtained in the early morning sun (3 birds in the 'scope at once) as Buff-bridled Inca-Finches and Spot-throated Hummingbirds flitted through the arid forest and scrub nearby.

Returning to Cajamarca we collected our box lunches before setting off on the coastal road, stopping below Abra Gavilan to see Unicolored Tapaculos in a gulley there. The rest of the afternoon was spent driving back to Chiclayo.
Today's birds included Andean Gulls, Spot-throated Hummingbird, Purple-collared Woodstar, Coastal Miner, Great Spinetail (3), Unicolored Tapaculo, Black-billed Shrike-Tyrant, House Sparrow (the first of the tour!), Russet-crowned Warbler, Buff-bridled Inca-Finch, Scrub Blackbird.
